GET ACADEMIC
20 Visual Art Competitions for High School Students 2022
I want to get my students to start joining art competitions and make that a regular occurrence in the curriculum. I found this article had the most comprehensive list of “International” art competitions, which is my biggest issue as many that I know are USA based only.
DEVELOP PROFESSIONALLY
Video Editing with Adobe Premiere Pro for Beginners
I want to get better at editing videos because I would like to make easy-to-follow step-by-step instructional videos of the projects I do in class for both students and colleagues. For students, I want these videos so they can review them again if they need to, or if they are absent from class, they can review the video so I can optimize my time. For my colleagues, I get asked how to do my art project all the time and being able to give them a video would be far easier than them asking me the steps because they rarely come and have me show them step-by-step because we are all busy. I chose Adobe Premiere Pro because I am already paying for all the Adobe projects in my subscription, and I have it, so might as well use it.
BUILD LIFE SKILLS
Students were tasked with interviewing a student they didn’t know or knew the least in the class. They were to find out 3 interesting and unique things about that person. Then they were to draw a flattering portrait of that portrait that included those 3 things. This is a great way for student to learn about their classmates and to help shy or new students make friends.
CREATE AWARENESS
Composite Face Project: Students are to create a charcoal image using 8 different ethnicities: White, Black, East Asian, Latin X, Middle East, Polynesian, Native American, and Mediterranean. They have to make the person pleasing to look and unified.

FIND COMMON GROUND
Every week, I meet up with collogues to play Dungeons and Dragons. IN this picture, you have members of Early Childhood Education, Elementary, Middle School, High School, and Admin.

This is probably my first tweet in over a decade
SHARE AN ACHIEVEMENT
What I overcame: I hate Rubrics. They confuse me. I know they are the soup de jour in teaching right now, but I loath them. That being said, one of the things I learned it how to understand the Moreland Rubric. Which is a first. It took a lot out of research and time to figure them out, but I managed it
GET PERSONAL
Professional Ethic I live by: Flexibility, not only in myself but also in my students. Art is rarely regimented; creativity is fluid.
